During a one-month scholarship stay in August 2021 in the Lausitz region near Berlin, Alex Besta began to mold organic structures from the living environment. Based on her research, Alex Besta transfers these into the meaning dimension of ornamentation. From here she examines existing orders and power relations. Alex Besta extends the structures of the bark beetle larvae analogously in space, as well as digitally through an algorhytmic set of forms within the animation.
In the overall installative composition, which moves between rigidity, preservation, and a breaking out of the involuntarily given forms, the organic structures of the bark beetle larvae rise up, become autonomous, and begin to produce themselves instead of being preserved.
We stare at,
gripped by the living,
gently embracing its own.
Hanging at the eye level of our species,
stuck here,
anchored,
chained.
Agency accessories,
segmenting,
unleashing,
generating a vast network of nodes, loops and chains.
